Spring Break 2011 Fashion

By Ellie Turner
Students all over the world prepare for wherever their spring break plans take them, and this year they need to make sure they do it in style.
Much preparation goes into many people’s spring break plans.  Most people go to the beach with a group of friends.  Guys drink way too much and girls bask in the sun for too long.  If people are going to spend their week overindulging, they might as well do it looking their best.  Besides, everyone knows that the pictures taken will haunt them forever.
“When I look back at that week’s pictures, I want to feel confident that I looked my best at all times,” said Morgan Sisson, a junior psychology major. “Plus, to me, that week is the best time to show off all your new spring and summer clothes.”
Sisson says that when she prepares for her trips, planning is key.  First, she makes a list of everything she may do while on the trip.  Then, she can pick outfits accordingly.  Her favorite items for the beach trip she will take for her break include a big floppy hat to keep the sun from her face and a new Victoria Secret bathing suit.  Every year, Sisson buys a new suit for her vacation. This year she plans to incorporate pink and orange into every outfit, because those our spring’s most fashionable colors. She also likes to keep things simple and comfortable. Her packing essentials for the beach are linen pants, sundresses, and of course, the perfect beach bag to hold all of her things.
“The key is to keep things simple and classic, because vacation is about relaxation and you don’t want to look like you have tried too hard to look good,” says Sisson. “It is all about your outfit looking effortless.”
Julia Porter, a junior education major, says that her week-long trip is about keeping things simple during the day and trendy at night.  At night, Julia plans to go out and like previous years, she will step out in the latest styles.
“I start looking at magazines with all of the newest fashions to prepare for my attire,” says Porter.
People Style Watch’s March issue is where Porter looked for this year’s fashion and she found tips that helped her plan. First of all, white is a must this year.  Porter insists that white is the perfect beach color and you can accessorize it so well.  She will pair most of her outfits with gold jewelry.  She also is a big fan of the big artsy necklaces that make any neckline pop.  Her favorite outfit that she has planned so far is snakeskin pants that are grey and black paired with a sexy black top.  The top is simple, but it does show just enough skin.  She will pair this outfit with Jessica Simpson black pumps and black jewelry.  Porter knows that some people may be surprised by her pants, but she insists if they are the newest trend.
“I’m probably going to get crazy looks some nights, because, let’s face it, most people do not know or understand fashion.” Porter said. “One thing’s for sure, I know what is hot and I am not afraid to wear it.”
Boys do not really get into what looks the best.  As long as they have a bathing suit, most of them are content.  Preston Bridges, junior engineering major, says he will pack some polos and khaki shorts for nights out on the town. Other than that, he will wear the one and only bathing suit he owns all day.
“I don’t know about some people, but I am there to have a good time on the beach,” said Bridges. “After all, I look my best with as little clothing as possible on the body I have been slaving over for my spring break vacation.”
Girls and boys will find themselves packing bags to be on their way to a vacation from school and life in general.  It is a week to escape and have fun.  Each person has their own opinion of style and what matters.  Hopefully, some people will take the advice of Sisson, Porter, and Bridges and keep things classic and trendy, so that when everybody sees the new photos uploaded to Facebook, they will notice their outfits instead of their drunken poses.
