For spring break 2011 many students will experience the challenge of being on a tighter budget, especially for student Allyson Boyd, 19 of Picayune, Miss.

“I am going on spring break to Atlantis in the Bahamas, it definitely won’t be a cheap trip, so I am trying to budget my expenditures,” Boyd said. “My plane ticket is $600 and Atlantis is not all-inclusive.”

Boyd plans to use saved up money from her graduation, birthday and some extra cash from her parents to pay for the trip.

Originally from the Gulf Coast, Boyd’s family is one of many that have suffered from the effects of the BP oil spill. Times have been hard for many residents of the Gulf Coast area, forcing many families on a budget.

While vacationing in Atlantis, Boyd plans to enjoy the sun, and make memories with friends.

Boyd says that even though the suffering economy has forced her to reevaluate how she spends, it will not hold her back from enjoying spring break 2011.
